Jill, 41, went to university in Wales and trained as a journalist in the north of England, where she worked on a number of local and regional newspapers. She moved to Edinburgh in 1999, continuing her newspaper career at Scotland on Sunday, Business a.m. and The Scotsman.

After joining the Greens in 2000 she worked on the party’s award-winning 2003 Parliamentary election campaign and stood in the 2005 Murrayfield by-election. She lives in Murrayfield with her partner, Stephen, and two-year-old son, Toby. She enjoys walking and gardening.

‘There is too much inertia in local politics – it’s time people voted for change,’ she says. ‘Too many of our local councillors have been in the job for far too long. We need some fresh Green faces in the council chamber with fresh Green ideas.’
