Details of the Leith Walk Campaign

Leith Walk is one of 17 new council wards which have been set up for the council elections in May 2007. Each ward will have 3 or 4 councillors to represent it, and Leith Walk Ward will have 4. Read here about Maggie Chapman’s campaign in Leith Walk.

Leith Walk ward stretches from Ferry Road in the north to London Road in the south, reaching Bonnington in the west and Easter Road Stadium in the east. Approximately 23,000 people are on the voting register in this ward. You can see a map of the new ward here

Maggie Chapman is the Green candidate for Leith Walk. She has lived in Edinburgh for more than 8 years, having moved to the UK from Zimbabwe where she was born and brought up. Maggie is 27 and is currently doing research in Environmental Ethics and Conservation as part of her PhD in Geography at Edinburgh University. She has worked in the west of Scotland in Environmental Management, and as a community carer throughout Edinburgh. Maggie has been involved in many local campaigns in the city, and is committed to working for a greener and more sustainable Edinburgh. She would like the City Council to take seriously their responsibilities to ensure that Edinburgh citizens have a coherent transport system, affordable and suitable housing, and a sustainable waste management strategy.
