Alison is Parliamentary Assistant to Robin Harper MSP and has worked with Robin since 1999, when the Greens in Lothians achieved a historical breakthrough with their first ever election to a parliament in the UK. 41 years old, Alison is Edinburgh born and bred and lives in the south of the city with her husband and young daughter. She has been active in many local campaigns in Edinburgh and is currently working with shopkeepers in Morningside who are experiencing real hardship following the opening of three new supermarkets in the local high street. Alison would like Councillors to really listen to those they represent. She would like to see greater understanding of the difficulties that the inequalities in the planning system cause for many citizens and a determination to involve local people in decision making. A former East of Scotland 800metres and 1500 metres title holder, Alison still runs for fitness and has witnessed the gradual and ongoing loss of accessible green space for residents and the apparent obsession with organised and elite sport that excludes many.
