Chas Booth was elected as the Green Councillor for Leith on Edinburgh Council in May 2012. He is the Green Party spokesperson for Environment, Culture and Leisure and a member of the Transport and Environment and Culture and Sport Committees. He also sits on the Licensing Board which rules on alcohol and gambling applications. He’s a director of Edinburgh Leisure, the Edinburgh International Festival Society and the Leith Industrial School Trust. He’s also a trustee with Edinburgh-based bike recycling charity The Bike Station and local environment group Greener Leith.

Prior to his election in May 2012 Chas was a fuel poverty campaigner with a small trade association in Leith. He was a member of the Scottish Government’s fuel poverty forum for nearly 8 years advising on policy and implementation. He previously campaigned for Friends of the Earth Scotland; managed the Edinburgh office of sustainable transport charity Sustrans; worked for the Green Party in the Scottish and European Parliaments, and taught English in Bavaria and Bosnia.

Chas was born near Lincoln and moved to Scotland at the age of 8. He graduated from Edinburgh University in Social Policy and Politics in 1996 and lives in Leith with his wife and two young children. A keen cyclist, Chas once rode a 3-speed 1950s bike from Augsburg in Bavaria to Edinburgh.
