Don’t know if you’re registered to vote? Here’s how to get onto the Electoral Register. Also details about the voting systems. 
In order to vote in elections, you must be recorded on the Electoral Register. Local Councils always send a letter to every household in the autumn each year in order to update the records, but you can also update your record at any time. However, changes do take some time to take effect, so, to be on the safe side, you must ensure you are registered at least one month before an election. Don’t leave it until the last minute!

British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens can vote in all elections in the UK, and, in addition, European Union citizens can vote in Local Authority, Scottish Parliament and European Parliament elections.

Students are entitled to be on the Electoral Register at both their termtime address and their home address, but can only vote in one location or the other.
