Vote for the Planet

Lorna Slater, Green candidate in the Leith Walk ward by-election, on why we need Greens in government at all levels.

When we are facing something as huge as climate change it can be hard to know where to start. We normally start with making changes as individuals: buying a re-usable water bottle or re-usable coffee cup, switching the lights off, taking the bus instead of the car. These things are great and we should do them, but as a Green, I believe that the most effective thing we can do, instead of each making small changes on our own, is work together to make big changes.

Just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of all CO2 emissions world wide. The only way to make big changes is to tackle the big multi-national corporations that operate these systems.

Democracy is how we work together and our democratically elected representatives represent us as a powerful group, so make sure yours are really working for the future that you want. Governments need to have powers to tackle the corporations that are damaging the planet and they need to use them, and this is why you need Greens in government at all levels.
