Planning for a Greener City @ Augustine United Church
Feb 22 @ 13:30 – 16:45

City Centre Greens are hosting “Planning for a Greener City”. This is a public event, and all are welcome.

Edinburgh Council are consulting on their ideas for the next Local Development Plan for Edinburgh – ‘City Plan 2030’. Come along to discuss the main issues report and the opportunities it presents from a green perspective.

This is your chance to discuss with others the Council’s consultation report and consider how the City Plan 2030 could help make Edinburgh a greener city. This early stage is the best chance to get involved. There will be a chance to submit your own comments to the Council’s consultation and come up with new ideas that will help inform our Green Councillors’ work, with a particular focus on the City Centre.

The event will run from 1.30pm to 4.45pm, with an introduction, discussion groups 2pm to 3.45pm and informal discussion for the last hour. Feel free to drop in for part of the time if you can’t make it all.

Accessibility:

  • The main entrance to the building is up four steps with a handrail. Step-free access is available via a door to the right of the building (please ring the bell for attention). A disabled toilet is available at this level.
  • The venue has a hearing loop which can be used during the meeting (please request at the registration desk).
  • If you require any communication support which would make the event more accessible for you, please contact us in advance: comms.edin@scottishgreens.org.uk.

Branch hustings – Local Elections candidates @ Augustine United Church
Mar 19 @ 19:30 – 21:30

This event is part of the selection process to choose Green candidates to stand for election to council in Edinburgh in 2022.

This event is for members only.
Doors open at 7pm.

Edinburgh has declared a climate emergency, with a target to be carbon neutral by 2030. This will be a major challenge, and Green councillors need to be there to make sure the council meets this target. The next council term will run from 2022 to 2026, which will be a crucial time for climate action. We currently have 8 Green councillors, but in 2022 we are looking to win at least 12 seats. We do this through a well tested model called “Target to Win” in which we focus resources on those areas most likely to result in a councillor being elected. This means we need 17 candidates – 12 councillors in waiting, and 5 eager campaigners looking to support the team and gain experience during the election.

Click here to read more about the job and the selection process.

Voting Process

As agreed at the Branch AGM, the voting will be a two stage process. The first stage is to get a gender balanced list of our 12 target ward candidates, our 5 non-target ward candidates, and a ranked list of remaining candidates in case a candidate decides to not proceed further.

The second stage is to get each of the 12 target candidates selected for target ward, and the 5 non-target candidates selected for a non-target ward.

The timeline for this process:
