Liberton/Gilmerton by-election Campaign!

The green team out and aboutThe Liberton/Gilmerton by-election is nearly here, and we’re so grateful for all the help everyone’s given so far.
It’s time for the final push: we have one last week to show people that they should vote Green for a councillor who will challenge the status quo and stand up for the people of Edinburgh.

We’ll be delivering flyers and chatting to people on the doorsteps, distributing ‘eve of poll’ cards to remind people to actually vote, and visiting polling stations with winning smiles on election day!

Below is a plan for what’s happening each day – please let us know when you are available to help, and remember you can always take leaflets to distribute in your own time if you’d rather.

Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th
Action Weekend

This will hopefully be our biggest action weekend yet, with people out and about all over the ward. If you’d like to get involved with the campaign but haven’t managed to yet – this is the weekend for you! We’ll be joined by members of the Scottish Young Greens and people who are new to the Edinburgh Branch and we’ll be providing guidance and training in how to canvass and talk to people about the election. There will be 4 shifts throughout the weekend – feel free to join us for one or all! The timetable for both days will run like this:

10am Meet at 19/2 Bernard Terrace (EH8 9NU) for briefings, training and tea.
11am-1pm First shift out in the ward

1pm-2pm LUNCH (We’ll be having a picnic in the ward weather permitting, or finding a dry spot elsewhere)

2pm-6pm Briefing and training (if needed) and second shift in the ward

6pm – head back to 19/2 Bernard Terrace for a debrief to talk about how the day has gone and a cup of tea!
People who are travelling to Edinburgh are very welcome to say at Alys’ flat overnight – just email her or give her a call on 07970311943 to let her know.
Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th, Wednesday 19th
Eve of Poll Card distribution

On the evenings running up to the vote we’ll be delivering Eve of Poll cards to key areas in the ward – this can be done in groups, or if you would prefer to take a bundle and head out on your own that’s fine too!

Meet at 6pm at 19/2 Bernard Terrace each day or contact Alys to collect some cards at a different time.
Thursday 20th
Election Day!

On polling day itself, we need people to stand outside polling places with a green rosette looking friendly and catching people’s eyes! If you’re able to give an hour on the 20th to do this please let us know!
