Visitor Levy for Edinburgh

Friday 19 January @ 11:59 pm

Edinburgh Council are looking for views from visitors and residents on Edinburgh’s plans to introduce a Visitor Levy, otherwise known as a tourist tax.

A visitor levy is defined as an additional charge paid on overnight accommodation. The charge type for Scotland is still being defined but is expected to either be a percentage of the accommodation booking minus any room add-ons (parking, entertainment, food, and drink etc.); or a fixed rate, charged per room, per person, and/or per night.

The Council are seeking your views on:

  1. What shape and size should the Visitor Levy in Edinburgh take.
  2. Who should the levy apply to.
  3. How revenue generated by the levy should be invested in the city.
