Alison was elected fourth out of seven on the Lothian list, with a total vote of 21,505 (7.5%). She joins Glasgow Green MSP, Patrick Harvie, in a continuing Green presence in parliament at a time when all other parties experienced losses in the face of astonishing advances in the SNP vote.
“We fought a fantastic campaign in Lothian and I cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who helped in the effort with their time, energy, skills and donations. Without this effort we could easily have been wiped out, just as happened to the Liberal Democrats who ended the day with not a single MSP in Lothian.
“Of course, I would have loved to have been part of a bigger group of MSPs and I genuinely regret that fantastic candidates like Kirsten Robb, Mark Ruskell and Martin Ford, and others, fell just a bit short of the required number of votes. But seismic events like the SNP vote in this election are once-in-a-lifetime. And we’ve set up a great platform for the council elections next May.”
