Colinton/Fairmilehead: Candidate – Alastair Tibbitt

The Greens have selected Alastair Tibbitt as candidate in the Colinton / Fairmilehead for the City Council elections of 3 May 2007.

Alastair is a keen environmentalist, with an MSc in Energy and Environmental Management. He has more than four years experience in local government, where he has worked to involve tenants and community groups in improving their local neighbourhoods.  From his experience getting stuck in  alongside community clean-up volunteers, to organising youth projects tackling graffiti and designing community gardens, Alastair knows that local people can take back control over their local environment with the right support.

He says, ‘Our suburban green spaces are suffering from years of under investment under Labour. If elected, I will tackle this, ensuring that local people are given the tools they need to build distinctive, healthy neighbourhoods free from vandalism, graffiti, and litter’.

Alastair currently works in Glasgow, where he manages the Clean Glasgow Environmental Community Action Team. In his spare time he tries to keep his organic allotment free of weeds, and improve his mandolin playing.
