Green councillors welcome protestors’ voices

Green councillors have welcomed the protest made by various groups at today’s meeting of Edinburgh City Council and called for the ruling administration to listen carefully to their demands.

According to the Greens, the protests show that claims of political apathy are wide of the mark.

Convenor of the Group of Green Councillors, Alison Johnstone said:

“Today’s lobby shows that the honeymoon period for the ruling Liberal-SNP group is well and truly over.  From schools closures to threats to sports facilities; from despair over the loss of common good land to anger at the closure of homelessness centres – people are sending out a strong message to the Council not to take them for granted.

“If the Council is serious about forging a common vision for the future of Edinburgh then it needs to listen seriously to what the protestors are saying.
