Green councillor hails Museum on the Mound u-turn

Green councillor Alex Staniforth has welcomed the decision by Lloyds Banking Group to reverse its proposal to close the “Museum on the Mound at the end of 2017.

Cllr Staniforth has led the campaign to keep the museum opening and only last week pressed the city council to put pressure on Lloyds. A public petition has gathered almost 1,500 signatures.

Cllr Staniforth said:

“I am pleased that common sense has won the day and that Lloyds Banking Group have listened to public opinion. The museum on the mound is right in the heart of the city and a free visitor attraction for tourists and school trips alike. Its closure would have been a loss.

“The history of Edinburgh is steeped in its role in financial services right to this day and the museum plays a part in considering that history and the future.

“Well done to everyone who made their voice heard.”
