Chas was born near Lincoln and moved to Scotland with his parents at the age of 8. He went to school near Huntly, Aberdeenshire and in Musselburgh. He graduated MA (Hons) in Social Policy and Politics from the University of Edinburgh in 1996 and lives in Leith with his wife and two young children.
