Mark Wilkinson was the Green candidate for the Livingston North ward in the 2022 Council Elections.
I am standing as a candidate because it is vital that all Green voters get to have their voices heard in the local elections here in West Lothian.
I want to ensure that local democracy works, that people feel represented and their concerns are addressed by their local authority; that the climate crisis is understood by local communities and that the council is held to account for its own work to address this; and that we prioritise social and economic issues as much as environmental.
We moved to West Lothian with our young family almost 25 years ago and I feel that I have a strong sense of the main issues and concerns of local communities – including those connected with transport, housing quality, employment and education.
I’ve worked in a variety of roles in education for over 30 years – as a community education worker; to increase access to university level study; and now for 20 years as a University Student Support and Wellbeing Manager. I also support local charities and voluntary organisations and am currently a Trustee of the West Lothian based Dignity Boxes charity.
If think we need to hear the views of more green voices in our democracy and hope to offer a way for people in Livingston North to achieve this.
