This weekend sees Leith Theatre’s first professional stage production in 30 years. Cllr Chas Booth celebrates the Theatre’s success.
This summer, Leith Theatre celebrated becoming an Edinburgh International Festival venue for the first time since the 1970s. The “Light up the Shore” series of gigs and performances featured 16 events over 14 nights, across many genres and featuring artists including Mogwai, King Creosote and Karine Polwart. The Theatre has also hosted the Hidden Door Festival, Neu! Reekie! and Fly Club Nights.
Green councillor for Leith Chas Booth said, “It’s clear that Leith Theatre is already an outstanding live music venue, but with investment it could be the best in the country. Leith excels at celebrating our culture, and I look forward to continuing to support Leith Theatre to help do that.”
This weekend marks the next milestone in Leith Theatre’s rebirth, with the opening of the first professional stage production in 30 years. The Last Days of Mankind, an epic anti-war piece specially adapted for Leith Theatre, opens on 11 November, the centenary of the Armistice. Read more about the production here.
