Edinburgh Branch Meeting @ Augustine United Church
Jul 25 @ 18:45 – 21:30

This meeting is open to members and non-members, and is in two parts:

1. New Members event. 18:45 – 20:00. This is to welcome new members (or prospective members), but all are invited. Discover how the party works and how to get involved; meet some of our elected representatives, and chat with members from your local team. We will also hear reports from our Green councillors and MSPs.
We hope you’ll stay on for the second part of tonight’s event (below).

2. Edinburgh’s
Food Strategy. 20:00 – 21:30.
Hear from guest speakers about their work to change the way that we think about, produce and consume our food. We will be joined by:

  • Nourish Scotland to talk about their work in the world of food policy (Stephanie Mander – Policy and Campaigns Officer);
  • SHRUB Coop, whose food sharing hub is reducing local food waste (Sydney Chandler – Food Sharing Hub Coordinator);
  • Community growing initiatives The Grove Community Garden, Fountainbridge (Wendy Lord) and Leith Community Crops in Pots (Evie Love) on local food growing in the city.

Following short talks and a Q&A, we will discuss what this means for Edinburgh and what Greens should be campaigning for in the city.

In the spirit of food sharing and waste reducing, we will be running a food bring and swap – bring your garden produce, home baking or preserves and swap for something else. Don’t worry if you have nothing to swap – donations to the Scottish Greens are also accepted!

Doors open 18:30. If you would like to join the meeting remotely via Skype, please email comms.edin@scottishgreens.org.uk for the Skype link in advance.

Greens go to Pride @ West Lothian College
Jul 27 @ 11:00 – 19:30
Greens go to Pride @ West Lothian College

All are Welcome as the West Lothian Greens go to West Lothian PRIDE 2019, celebrate the local LGBTQI+ community and protest for those who are still not allowed to express their rights.

This year marks the 50th anniversary since the Stonewall riots which marked the beginning of a long (and still ongoing) fight for LGBT+ rights across the world and here in Scotland, so it is more fitting than ever that a Green Bloc joins the march through the streets of Livingston.

We will be meeting at the West Lothian College at 11 am more precise information will be available on the day on all our social media platforms.

Reframing Independence: workshop for activists @ Nelson Hall
Jul 28 @ 12:30 – 16:30

Reframing is a technique which enables you to get your point across to another person without reinforcing their existing preconceptions.

NOTE: this event is fully booked. We hope to run it again soon.

Facts alone do not change people’s opinions – conversely, in many cases, presenting clear facts actually reinforces misconceptions.

This workshop is aimed at activists who wish to reassure the undecided on the merits of Scottish independence. The skills learned are applicable to any issue and are useful in helping out with stalls, social media debating, canvassing etc.

Sessions include reframing essentials, communication techniques and participant action plans.

The event will be run by Bill Mills who has worked closely for several years with Bill Dale who has been developing a reframing programme for the Yes movement based on the work of cognitive scientist George Lakoff.

Open to Scottish Green Party members and supporters. Numbers are limited, so please email seeg@scottishgreens.org.uk to secure your place.

This event is organised by South East Edinburgh Greens.

Standing for Holyrood 2021 – Q&A all members @ The Welcoming
Aug 13 @ 19:30 – 20:30

With the next Scottish Parliament election due in May 2021, it’s time to select our Green candidates for Holyrood 2021.

The selection process for all eight regions in Scotland will be conducted nationally, and nominations for candidates will open later in August.

Thinking of standing to be one of the Green candidates for Lothian region? We would urge all members to consider standing, but particularly women, LGBTQIA+ members, young, disabled and BME Greens, who continue to be underrepresented in political life.

This information session: This Q&A session looks at the reasons for standing and why diverse voices are needed in parliament. Put your questions to sitting Lothian Green MSPs Alison Johnstone and Andy Wightman; to John Hardy (Convenor, Rainbow Greens); and to reps from the Scottish Young Greens and Disabled Greens groups.

Note: there is a second Q&A session tomorrow, Wednesday 14 August, open to women and non-binary members, facilitated by the Scottish Greens Women’s Network.

Questions about the event? Contact Kate and Ben, branch co-convenors –
