Scotland United Against Trump Demonstration @ The Scottish Parliament
Jul 14 @ 12:00 – 16:00

Trump wants to come to Scotland, so from all across Scotland we’re telling him and his politics aren’t welcome here.

The march will start outside the Scottish Parliament before marching through the city, past the US Consulate and finishing in the Meadows for a Carnival of Resistance against Trump with stalls, talks, music and games (‘Toss the welly at Trump’, Trump’s head coconut shy and, of course, mini golf).

New Branch Members Meeting @ Augustine United Church
Jul 26 @ 19:30 – 21:30

This event is to welcome new members; or if you’ve been a member for a while and would like to get more involved, this event is a good starting place. There will be a presentation about how the party works and what you can do as a member; a chance to meet some of our elected representatives; and time to chat with members from your local team.

All members and supporters are invited: come with any questions about the party, the branch and your local area team. Or if you’re a more experienced member, come share your experiences. Children are also very welcome – this is a family friendly venue.

Leith & Leith Walk Greens – AGM @ Leith Community Centre
Sep 13 @ 19:00 – 20:30

Leith & Leith Walk sub-branch AGM
Leith & Leith Walk Greens recently became a sub-branch of the Scottish Green Party, which reflects our active membership.

Come along to the AGM on 13 September and help shape our future. Please consider standing for a committee position, to be elected at AGM – it’s a great way to get more involved in developing the work and prominence of Greens in the local area, and you’ll be playing a vital role in making sure we work more effectively as a team. Email leith@edinburghgreens.org.uk for details.

Want to be more involved but not on the committee? You don’t have to come to meetings or be on the committee to get involved. We’re always looking for people to help out on stalls and at fundraising events; to help with delivering newsletters, canvassing, photography and writing newsletter articles. And if you have an idea for a project, event or action which supports the Green message, we’d like to hear more.

Starts at 7pm at Leith Community Education Centre (room TBC).
Directions: up the stairs outside Lidl in the Kirkgate shopping centre.
Children welcome.

People’s Vote – events around Edinburgh @ various locations
Nov 10 @ 10:00

“Scottish Green Party members stand ready to campaign with our Green colleagues in the other nations of the UK, and with people across party lines for a People’s Vote”.
Patrick Harvie MSP

Co-convener Patrick Harvie welcomed the vote held on 7 Nov at Holyrood to endorse a People’s Vote, meaning people throughout the UK can have a final chance to cancel Brexit.

Events in Edinburgh this Saturday on the People’s Vote:

Send a message to demand a final say on Brexit: The European Movement in Scotland (EMiS) is holding a drop-in session for letter writing to MPs on Saturday between 10 – 12 in the foyer of Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.

EMiS will also be out in the city centre on Saturday, collecting signatures for a People’s Vote. Look for them on the corner of Castle St and Princes St, starting 11am. Drop by, say hello.

Old Town canvassing session – holiday lets @ Grassmarket, opp Fiddler's Arms
Nov 24 @ 11:00
After a great turnout at door-knocking last weekend, with very positive response from the residents we spoke to, City Centre Greens will hold another canvassing action session. Can you help? People from all areas of the city are very welcome!

Meetup details:
– In front of the Fiddlers Arms pub on the Grassmarket
– 11am on Saturday 24th November

– Followed by coffee/drinks/lunch at the Fiddlers Arms from 12:30pm

We will be going door-to-door in this area of the Old Town where we know there are a high number of holiday lets. Our aim is to offer practical help to anyone who is suffering problems in relation to holiday lets in their stair, and to tell residents what the Greens have achieved in the council and the parliament. Cllr Claire Miller will give you all the info you need to have these conversations when we meet up.

Those of you who haven’t done door to door campaigning before are very welcome. At last week’s session, half of the group either hadn’t done door knocking before or had not done it for many years, so they paired up with more experienced activists and took brief notes during conversations with residents. If you haven’t done this before please do come along, it’s really helpful to have a note taker and it would be lovely to see you.

Claire will provide all the information and materials when we meet up on Saturday 24. Please let her know you’re planning to come – email edin.city.centre@scottishgreens.org.uk Remember to wear a Green badge or hoodie if you have one!

Standing Orders – review meeting @ Augustine United Church
Jan 17 @ 19:30

This meeting is for members only. Doors open 7pm.

1. The Scottish Green Party Standing Orders Committee (SOC) have produced a draft for a new party constitution. The draft constitution has been sent to SGP branches, representative groups and national committees for consideration; comment and feedback to be returned to SOC, before a final version is presented for adoption by Conference.

The draft constitution reflects discussions around what changes are needed to our institutions, structures and practices so that we can become more effective and yet operate in ways that fit with our basic principles. This meeting will be our first chance as a Branch to explore the draft constitution.

New organisational structures and processes are required for the party to function effectively. The more involved members are in determining what the new processes and structures should be, the better fit we will be as an organisation to move forward over the next decade.

We will also be looking at the draft SGP Code of Conduct, feeding back to SOC.

2. Edinburgh Green councillors have reviewed their Standing Orders
and have proposed some revisions, which requires branch approval. Click for the Green councillor group draft SO document to be reviewed and ratified.

If you can’t attend this meeting but have comments on either document, please email edinburgh@scottishgreens.org.uk by 17 January to feed into the discussion.
