Dan Heap is the Green candidate for Edinburgh South West in the 2024 General Election.

Having represented part of the Edinburgh South West constituency, Sighthill/Gorgie, at the Council level, I understand the challenges it faces and the priorities of local people. Some parts of the constituency have some of the highest levels of child poverty in the city, caused in part by social security cuts made by successive UK governments, and reversing these is one of my priorities for this campaign.

I am also proud to stand up for the rights of transgender people and stand against the UK Government’s undermining of efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

Having worked in both the Scottish Parliament as a researcher and now as a councillor for Sighthill / Gorgie, I have a track record of successful parliamentary campaigning, such as ending the cruel disability payment assessments and expanding access to free tickets for cultural events in Edinburgh. I’ve also helped my constituents with a range of local problems, and am campaigning as a proven effective local representative.
