Lothian Green MSP report – Mar 2023

Lorna Slater’s report to Lothian branches of the Scottish Greens for Mar 2023

Firstly I want to thank everyone that made our Spring Conference possible. It was great to visit Clydebank to meet members old and new and discuss our party’s goals and ambitions for the years ahead.

Our conference was only mere days before the announcement of the SNP leadership election and subsequent confirmation of Humza Yousaf as the next First Minister of Scotland.

I was very glad that our Party Council unanimously voted for the party’s MSPs to support Humza Yousaf in becoming FM and for us to continue with the Bute House agreement.

We were clear then that we’d never put our principles to one side for political opportunism and are so proud to be able to continue our great work in Government.

I also thanked the new First Minister on his support of the Bute House Agreement which we all know has made transformative change in Scotland and our work has only just begun.

Climate justice and equality are at the heart of our shared vision and we will continue to deliver on that vision.

In my speech as co-leader I congratulated Mr. Yousaf and expressed how historic his election was. Our youngest ever First Minister, our first Muslim leader and the first minority ethnic leader of a devolved Government in the UK.
